How to Get International Driving License in UAE

If you intend to drive in a foreign country, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required. Its purpose is to allow you to drive legally in nations that accept it, moreover works as a translation of your driver’s license. Check Eligibility

To apply for IDP in UAE, you must also be at least 18 years old and have a valid UAE driver’s license. Check if the country you plan to visit accepts IDPs issued by UAE.

Documents Required

Copy of passport with valid UAE residence visa
Two passport-size photos
Completed IDP application form
AED 150 application fee

Choose Issuing Authority

In UAE, you can get your IDP from either the Automobile and The Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) or the Emirates Driving Institute(EDI). Choose the one which will be easier for you.

Submission of Document

After gathering all your required documents, you must submit them to the chosen authority. You can do this in person or by mail.

Waiting for Processing

The waiting time for IDP is 24hrs to process your application, but it takes more time if there is any issue regarding your application that needs to be resolved.

Collect your IDP

After the process, you must collect your IDP from the chosen issuing authority. Make sure to bring your original documents and payment receipt.

Check Expiration Date

Before traveling, check the expiration date because the IDP is valid for one year before the issue date.
