Renowned Pakistani comedian and actor Iftikhar Thakur, known for frequently collaborating with stars from Indian Punjab, has found himself at the center of controversy following his recent comments in support of Pakistan amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. Thakur has appeared in several big-budget Punjabi films and has maintained close ties with numerous Indian Punjabi celebrities. However, his latest remarks have sparked backlash from some of his Indian colleagues.

Thakur had earlier made a bold statement, saying:

“If you come by air, you’ll be scattered in the winds; by sea, you’ll drown; and by land, you’ll be buried.”
He linked his statement to the Pakistan Air Force’s actions against the Indian Air Force, which drew strong reactions, particularly from Indian Punjabi actors.

Addressing the criticism, Thakur has now clarified his position. He acknowledged that there are two kinds of people: some, raised by brave mothers, may express anger but do so with dignity and respect. He expressed regret to artists like Simi Chahal, Diljit Dosanjh, and Amrinder Gill, stating he never intended to hurt them and deeply values their respect and decency.

Thakur explained that his pointed comments were specifically directed at Indian media figures like Major Gaurav Arya and General Bakshi, whom he described as “jingoists.” Emphasizing cultural unity, he said he has never viewed Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab as separate, noting that both regions are spiritually and culturally intertwined.

The actor also criticized those in the Indian Punjabi industry, including their Chief Minister (who is also an actor), for responding disrespectfully. He said such reactions reflect their upbringing and lack of refinement. While acknowledging their right to be patriotic, Thakur emphasized the importance of maintaining grace and mutual respect.

Thakur concluded by reminding everyone that he was a pioneer in building artistic bridges between Indian and Pakistani Punjab, and now, due to the prevailing hostility, he has taken the difficult step of ending those collaborations.
