The illegal online trade of rare and exotic wildlife continues in Pakistan, with marmoset monkeys now being openly advertised on social media platforms despite existing restrictions.
In recent days, several videos have circulated online showing sellers displaying the small monkeys and offering them for sale. Sources say marmosets are native to the forests of Brazil and other parts of South America and are allegedly being smuggled into Pakistan through illegal routes.
According to information shared by sources, some of these animals are reportedly entering the country through Afghanistan, indicating the use of cross-border routes in the illegal wildlife trade network.
There are growing concerns as sellers are allegedly offering nationwide delivery, claiming they can supply the animals to buyers in major cities across Pakistan. The open marketing of such species on social media has raised alarm among conservationists and wildlife authorities.
Wildlife experts have warned that the trade of protected and rare species violates national wildlife and conservation laws. They have urged authorities to take strict action against sellers, dismantle smuggling networks, and strengthen monitoring of online platforms to stop the growing illegal market for exotic animals.
