One of the most expensive and congested highways in Asia is the M-2. Along with mosques, car wash, fueling stations, and repair shops, the highway has a number of service facilities. These gasoline stations furthermore include a variety of food courts, including KFC, McDonald’s, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, and other local food chains.

If we start at the beginning of this motorway’s history, it was built with a budget of over Rs. 60 billion under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s first term (1990–1993) and opened to the public in November 1997, under Sharif’s second term. Daewoo Group of South Korea was awarded the M-2 motorway contract with a deal for Rs. 23,686 billion.

Additionally, the N-5 (National Highway No. 5) Thokar Niaz Baig junction is where the M-2 begins in Lahore. It leaves the N-5 (commonly known as GT or Grand Trunk Road) and travels in the direction of Sheikhupura after crossing the Ravi River. The Khanqah Dogran Interchange appears at a distance of 36 kilometres after passing through the Sheikhupura Interchange.

Following that, it passes the M-4 intersection at Pindi Bhattian and makes a northwest turn. After arriving in Kallar Kahar, it moves towards the Salt Ranges. The M-2 heads north at the Salt Range crossing and finishes at the intersection of the Islamabad Link Road and M-1 just west of Rawalpindi. The twin cities are connected to Peshawar by the M-1 highway, which then continues.
