Inauguration of Centralized Database of Essential Food Items
Islamabad: The federal government has made the decision to create a centralized database for gathering information about necessary food supplies.

According to sources, the federal cabinet has been requested by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) to pass legislation for a centralized database with the mandate to gather data on vital food items in this respect.
The ministry has insisted that in order to monitor and control the production, supply, demand, and prices of food goods, it is crucial that a central database and dashboard be set up at the federal level.

The federal government is in charge of ensuring the movement of basic food commodities across provinces, setting a support price or indicative price for key food commodities, and reducing food insecurity and malnutrition.
The ministry stressed that in order to accomplish the aforementioned goal, the federal and provincial governments must collaborate and exchange real-time data.

The ministry bemoaned the lack of a sufficient legislative and administrative framework requiring the federal, provincial, and entities operating under their jurisdiction to share data necessary to guarantee the nation’s food security.
