Inauguration of Green Line (BRT) Karachi by PM on 10 December
According to sources, on December 5th, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar announced the opening of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on December 10th, which is anticipated to be inaugurated by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to the province capital.
According to Prime Minister Imran Khan, a 35 billion PKR project is being initiated in order to reduce traffic in Karachi and develop a reliable transportation system for Pakistan’s largest city. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the project, which is being carried out by Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. (SIDCL).
According to the approved Project Concept-1 (PC-1), the BRT will begin at KESC Powerhouse Chowrangi in Surjani Town and end at Merewether Tower after passing through Nagan Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, and Gurumadir, with 21 stations along the route to accommodate 300,000 passengers per day. The length of the bus route is 23 kilometers, with an 11-kilometer fast lane.

During the five-year delay, the cost of the project has risen from $16.85 billion to $35 billion. The project was began in 2016. After the official opening, the project’s commercial opening will take place on December 25th, according to Minister Umar.
