Inauguration of PVC Plant of Engro Polymer by PM Imran Khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan reportedly inaugurated the 100,000-ton PVC-III plant of Engro Polymer and Chemicals (EPCL) on Friday in Islamabad in order to facilitate import substitution of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and increase exports.
In addition, he stated that the government is encouraging the expansion of local businesses to ensure import substitution and increase exports. He recommended the business community to concentrate on imports and export diversification in order to improve the county’s economy.
The chlorovinyl chemical EPCL is a manufacturer of PVC. With the assistance of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a plant expansion of up to $50 million has occurred. EPCL can produce 295,000 tons of PVC annually, contributing $240 million to import substitution.

In 2021, the company exported $25 million worth of PVC resin to Turkey and Middle Eastern countries. Demand for PVC has climbed by 6% annually, with construction accounting for 70% of usage.
