NEW DELHI – Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has denied US President Donald Trump’s claims that he played a key role in brokering the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stating the agreement was a bilateral decision.

Misri made these remarks to a parliamentary committee, responding to members’ concerns about Trump’s repeated statements taking credit for stopping the conflict. The committee questioned Misri about the number of Indian aircraft lost during the clashes, but he declined to answer citing national security.

Trump had earlier described his involvement as a “bigger success” than he’d get credit for, highlighting the risks of escalation between two nuclear powers. He said the countries were close to a dangerous situation, but now both sides are satisfied with the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and urged continued efforts to improve relations.

The ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10 after intense fighting, with Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry affirming its commitment and calling for restraint and communication to resolve any issues related to the ceasefire.
