Small Indian grocery stores and major online fashion retailers are boycotting Turkish products like chocolates, coffee, jams, cosmetics, and clothing. This comes after Turkey’s President Erdogan showed support for Pakistan during recent clashes with India.
The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), which supplies millions of small grocery shops, announced an indefinite boycott of Turkish goods. This affects many food and skincare items.
Big Indian fashion websites, like Flipkart’s Myntra and Reliance’s AJIO, have also removed Turkish clothing brands such as Trendyol, LC Waikiki, Koton, and Mavi. They say this is due to “national sentiments.”
India hasn’t officially ordered this boycott, but the consumer action could impact trade significantly. Food products worth about $234 million and apparel imports worth $81 million annually may be affected.
