Wasim Akram has expressed strong confidence in Pakistan’s chances at the ICC One Day World Cup 2023, saying the national team will definitely finish among the top four teams of the tournament.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Wasim Akram said Pakistan has always performed well in subcontinent conditions and has the ability to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. He said playing in India or Sri Lanka will not make much difference for Pakistan, as the team is familiar with such environments and will enter the tournament with confidence.
Commenting on the World Cup schedule issued by the International Cricket Council, Akram said there should be no objections to the Indian venues. He added that wherever matches are scheduled, teams should be prepared to play and focus on cricket rather than external issues.
Talking about the much-anticipated Pakistan versus India match scheduled for October 15, Akram said strong positions should only be taken when a country or board is ready to stand by them. He stressed that cricket should remain a game and decisions should be made carefully to avoid unnecessary embarrassment later.

He recalled that even during his playing days, frequent changes in PCB leadership caused concern among players about policies and team direction, which affects overall performance.
