As Maharashtra defeated Punjab by nine wickets in Friday’s Women’s T20 Trophy, opener Kiran Navgire set a new record for the fastest century in women’s Twenty20 cricket, reaching her century in just 34 balls.
Sophie Devine’s 36-ball century set four years ago was surpassed by Navgire, who has played six Twenty20 matches for India. She scored 106 from 35 balls with seven sixes and 14 fours. In just eight overs, Maharashtra managed to reach their target of 111.
With a strike rate of 302.86, the 31-year-old became the only female player to reach a century at a striking rate higher than 300.
After hitting a century in 38 balls against South Africa in 2010, West Indies batswoman Deandra Dottin now holds the record for the fastest century in a women’s international T20 match.
