Indonesia Initiates Construction of Submarine in South China Sea
The construction of a “submarine support station” in the South China Sea has officially begun thanks to a ceremony held by the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Laut: TNI-AL).

If completed, the facility, which is situated near the Lampa Strait, will be commanded by the TNI-Armada AL’s I.
In that meeting, the TNI requested funding for this facility in the amount of about USD $40 million.

The support station will occupy 1,050 m2 of land, with 1,008 m2 of usable space on each of its two levels, according to information released by the TNI-AL on 5 April. The building will also have a 585 m2 addition with 11 rooms that will house the submariners’ living quarters and mess hall.
In order to better facilitate the berthing of more submarines, the TNI-AL has also contracted with the local power utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to construct a 555 kVa electrical relay along the jetty that has already been built at the facility, the service added.
