A dignified ceremony was held at the Presidency on Monday, where Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was awarded Pakistan’s highest civil honour, the Nishan-e-Pakistan. The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, senior military leadership, and key government officials.
During the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari met the visiting Indonesian leader, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening historic ties and expanding bilateral cooperation. President Zardari conveyed condolences over the recent loss of lives caused by floods and landslides in Indonesia, while both leaders emphasized promoting interfaith harmony and tolerance.
The meeting underscored the desire to base future cooperation on inclusive development. The two sides expressed satisfaction over growing bilateral trade and agreed to work toward a more balanced commercial partnership. They also termed the Joint Trade Committee an effective platform for boosting business engagement.
Both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in information technology, agriculture, energy, and health sectors. They also stressed the need for collaborative efforts in climate change mitigation, disaster management, and sustainable development.
Defence cooperation featured prominently in the discussions, with both presidents agreeing to strengthen training programs and explore avenues for joint production.
Pakistan and Indonesia reaffirmed their resolve to jointly counter Islamophobia on global forums. President Zardari also briefed President Prabowo on the situation in occupied Kashmir.
A state dinner was hosted at the Presidency in honour of the visiting Indonesian president, marking a strengthened chapter in Pakistan-Indonesia relations.
