Following a three-day outage, mobile internet services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad resumed on Wednesday morning. Residents were forced to rely only on Wi-Fi and conventional cell calls due to the disruption caused by the authorities’ lockdown, which was implemented to stop peaceful protests.

After a violent police operation along Jinnah Avenue late Tuesday night, the protest came to an end. Life in the twin cities has begun to normalize as things have returned to normal. Sources from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) claim that the internet restriction was put into place on instructions from the Interior Ministry for security reasons.
Social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, had also been blocked via a firewall and mobile internet. Throughout the outage, users reported having trouble downloading and uploading media files. PTA sources claim that while mobile internet services are back up and running, social media platforms will only be restored once the security situation has been evaluated.
Wi-Fi and standard mobile network services were unaffected, even though social media and mobile internet were disrupted. However, the extended interruption significantly affected digital and communication operations for local businesses and citizens.
