ISLAMABAD, July 22: Yahya Afridi, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, chaired the fifth interactive session on judicial reforms on Tuesday. Senior Supreme Court officers, legal professionals, Federal Judicial Academy representatives, and members of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) were present at the meeting, according to an official notification.
The meeting functioned as a thorough assessment of the institutional initiatives meant to improve access to justice and streamline the legal system.
26 of the 89 suggested reform initiatives have been fully implemented, according to the release, while work on the remaining 84 is still ongoing.
It is anticipated that 14 more improvements will soon begin to be implemented.
Chief Justice Afridi ordered that all outstanding issues be settled before to the following review conference, expressing displeasure over the ongoing hold-up in the classification and scanning of case files, which is a crucial component of the digitalization push.
Without providing exact numbers, the statement also stated, “The reform process has resulted in a notable decline in the number of pending cases across the judiciary.”
The court’s dedication to openness, citizen-centered reforms, and effective administration of justice was reaffirmed at the session. The participants decided that these will continue to be the tenets that direct the reform effort.
Chief Justice Afridi emphasized the necessity of implementation continuity while applauding the work of the judicial and technical teams engaged in the reform initiative. He emphasized that only persistent work could guarantee significant changes to the legal system.
