Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has outlined Tehran’s stance following the latest round of negotiations in Islamabad, saying that while Iran entered the talks with goodwill, it still does not trust the United States.

In a detailed post on X, Ghalibaf said Iran approached the discussions in “good faith,” but decades of conflict and failed diplomacy have made it difficult to place confidence in Washington. He pointed to the legacy of past wars and broken commitments as key reasons behind Tehran’s cautious position.

According to Ghalibaf, Iranian negotiators put forward constructive and forward-looking proposals during the talks. However, he said the US side failed to provide enough assurance that its commitments would be reliable, leaving the burden on Washington to rebuild credibility if progress is to be made.

He also made it clear that diplomacy is not a substitute for military strength, but rather a parallel strategy. Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran will continue to safeguard the gains it believes it achieved during the recent 40-day Gulf conflict.

Highlighting domestic support, he described Iran as a nation of 90 million people united behind its leadership during a period of heightened tensions. He thanked citizens for their backing and also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in facilitating the intensive 21-hour dialogue between the two sides.

His remarks suggest that future negotiations may depend less on technical details and more on restoring trust—an issue that now appears central to any potential breakthrough between Tehran and Washington.
