On Tuesday, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa conferred detailed plans to divert Islamabad’s commercial vehicles to electric power. The initiative, focused on introducing electric buses in Islamabad, desires to create a more eco-friendly and efficient public transport system.

During the meeting, Randhawa highlighted the importance of this electric vehicle shift, calling it a necessary step toward reducing the city’s carbon footprint. He added that the change from traditional buses to electric ones will not only modernize Islamabad’s transport infrastructure but also contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
The chairman suggested offering soft loans to commercial transport operators to support this transformation and ease their transition to electric buses. Special incentives were also discussed to facilitate a quicker shift towards electric mobility. He stressed the need for collaboration with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to secure funding, focusing on carbon credits and the environmental impact of the Islamabad transport system.
The Ministry of Climate Change will be involved to align this initiative with the country’s overall climate goals. The meeting also highlighted the importance of upgrading charging infrastructure, a fundamental factor for the success of this initiative. The CDA plans to engage schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions in Islamabad to adopt electric buses for their transportation needs.
Furthermore, the chairman instructed CDA to establish electric vehicle charging stations at petrol pumps across the city. In addition, charging stations will be set up near newly launched digital parking facilities to provide better support for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road.
The initiative marks a significant step forward in Islamabad’s journey toward a more sustainable and greener future, helping the city lead by example in tackling climate change and promoting cleaner Islamabad transport solutions.
