The “Cycling as an Alternative Transport” initiative is now being implemented, according to a statement by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The initiative will create nearly 146 kilometers of bike lanes throughout the federal capital, according to the city body. With this effort, it hopes to lessen both traffic congestion and carbon imprints.
The CDA added that women and older people will be able to use this track because of a protected walkway. The construction of the bike lanes around Islamabad is slated to take three phases, with completion anticipated in February 2025.

The administration first intends to construct bike lanes along Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road, G-7, and G-6 in February and March of the following year. The remaining 14 sectors and main thoroughfares in Islamabad will get bike lanes in the second phase, which runs from May to November.
The project’s last phase, which is scheduled to take place in December 2024–February 2025, will see the construction of bike lanes (up to PWD) along the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway.
In addition, the authority intends to implement electric bikes at the last stage. In 72 places across the city, the authorities will rent out electric bikes in collaboration with a private business.
Every electric bike will travel at a speed of thirty kilometers per hour in a separate lane on signal-free highways. Member Technology and Digitization estimates that the project will come to a total cost of Rs. 1.5 billion upon completion.
In this context, the CDA board will discuss the issue at its meeting tomorrow. CDA has prepared a PC-I. The PC-I emphasized the advantages of the project as well as how frequently Islamabad residents use public transportation.
