Islamabad to Impose Huge Fine For Not Registering Pet Birds

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has started registering captive animals and birds in the Islamabad Capital Territory in order to conserve wildlife by prohibiting their ownership or sale online or in pet stores.

To launch the initiative, the IWMB initially began registering parrots, or parakeets. All parrot species in Pakistan, whether endemic or migratory, will be registered and given identification leg rings, according to IWMB spokesman Umar Bilal.

For adult birds, he offered free registration and leg ring implantation through December 31. However, there will be a specified price for IWMB registration during the upcoming phase, which runs through February 29.

The spokesperson encouraged all adult bird owners to finish the registration process prior to the deadline. He issued a warning, saying that owners of unregistered birds will forfeit them and pay a fee of Rs. 25,000.

After the current breeding season, parrot chicks will receive a closed-leg ring, according to Bilal.

Following the December 31 deadline for free registration, owners must pay an additional Rs. 5,000 to receive their rings. The fees for renewing a license annually are set up as follows:

Rs. 5,000 for ten birds or more
Rs. 15,000 for as many as 40 birds
Rs. 25,000 for as many as 100 birds
50000 rupees (more than 100 birds)
