The Capital Development Authority has decided to procure modern machinery to improve garbage collection and sanitation services across Islamabad.
The decision was taken during a meeting at CDA Headquarters chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting focused on developing a high-standard cleanliness and sanitation system for the federal capital.
According to a CDA spokesperson, authorities decided to immediately meet requirements for new machinery and additional manpower to strengthen both primary and secondary waste collection across the city.
Officials discussed a comprehensive strategy to address sanitation challenges in Islamabad. Randhawa directed that a complete and efficient cleanliness system should be developed without delay to resolve long-standing sanitation issues.
He also announced that a special cleanliness campaign will soon be launched across the city. Authorities will focus on modern equipment, improved planning, and increased manpower to tackle waste management problems more effectively.
During the briefing, officials said the number of waste containers will be increased in both urban and rural areas, while damaged containers already installed across the city will also be repaired.
Authorities also plan to increase the number of waste collection trolleys and install additional dustbins to improve disposal facilities.
Randhawa directed that a three-bin waste management system be introduced in commercial markets to promote proper waste segregation and recycling. Local traders will also be involved in the cleanliness campaign in major markets and trade centers.
The chairman further instructed officials to form neighborhood committees to engage residents in maintaining cleanliness. He also ordered authorities to issue challans and impose fines on individuals found littering in commercial areas.
He directed the Islamabad Food Authority to take action against restaurants responsible for improper waste disposal.
A 24/7 control room will also be established to monitor sanitation operations. Helpline numbers for citizen complaints will be displayed on digital screens across the city to improve public awareness.
Officials informed the meeting that field staff are being provided with wireless communication sets and new uniforms to improve response times. The meeting also decided to introduce a licensing and registration system for scavengers involved in garbage collection across different parts of the city.
