Israel carried out airstrikes on four border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, killing two people and injuring at least 19 others in southern Lebanon, despite a US-brokered ceasefire that ended hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024.

According to Lebanese officials, Israeli warplanes struck multiple villages and towns in southern Lebanon, including Qanarit, al-Kharayeb, al-Ansar, Kfour, and Jarjouh. The Lebanese Ministry of Health said that at least 19 people were wounded in Qanarit alone.

Earlier on the same day, one person was killed in Zahrani in the Sidon district and another in Bazuriyeh in the Tyre district when Israeli strikes hit vehicles in the area. Journalists and emergency responders were among those lightly injured, while AFP correspondents reported seeing burned vehicles, debris, and rescue teams rushing the wounded to hospitals.

Israel claims it was targeting Hezbollah-linked activities. In a statement posted on social media, the Israeli military said it struck four crossings along the Syria-Lebanon border allegedly used for weapons transfers and claimed it had killed a “key Hezbollah weapons smuggler” near Sidon. Israel said the strikes were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt Hezbollah’s supply routes.

Lebanon strongly condemned the attacks. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the airstrikes as a “policy of systematic aggression” and said they directly endangered civilians. He accused Israel of violating its obligations under the ceasefire agreement.

The Lebanese military also criticized the strikes, saying civilian homes and buildings were targeted in what it called a “blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.” Officials warned that such actions undermine efforts to implement the ceasefire, including steps related to Hezbollah’s disarmament.

The situation has raised renewed concerns about the fragility of the ceasefire and the risk of further escalation along Lebanon’s southern border.
