CANNES, France — Jennifer Lawrence stars in Die, My Love, a new film by director Lynne Ramsay, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie tells the story of Grace, a young mother struggling with severe postpartum depression, played by Lawrence. The role is deeply personal for Lawrence, who recently became a mother herself.

Lawrence shared that the film’s portrayal of isolation and anxiety hit close to home. “Extreme anxiety and depression is isolating, no matter where you are,” she said. The movie is a dark and intense look at a troubled marriage, with dramatic and unsettling moments.

Director Lynne Ramsay is highly respected for her previous work, and Lawrence was excited to collaborate with her. The film was adapted from Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel.

Die, My Love was quickly bought by indie distributor Mubi for $24 million, marking one of the biggest sales of the festival. Lawrence’s performance has received strong praise and is expected to be a serious contender for upcoming awards.

Lawrence, a mother of two, said parenthood has changed her emotionally and creatively. “Having children changes everything. It’s brutal and incredible,” she said. Co-star Robert Pattinson, who also recently became a father, joked that having a baby gives him “energy and inspiration,” leading to a playful exchange between the two actors.
