Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and retired Captain Safdar, has announced his second engagement, almost 19 months after his divorce from his first wife, Ayesha Saif Khan.
According to sources close to the family, Junaid’s new engagement is with someone from within the Sharif family itself. This new step comes after his separation from Ayesha in October 2023.
Junaid had married Ayesha in a private ceremony in London back in August 2021. Ayesha is the daughter of Saif-ur-Rehman Khan, a former aide to Nawaz Sharif and ex-head of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The wedding was a quiet affair with close family and friends, but the couple separated after more than two years.
Junaid, a Cambridge graduate with multiple degrees from UK universities, has been actively helping his mother with her political work since he returned to Pakistan full-time last year.
Sources say the Sharif family prefers to arrange marriages within their own circle, which is common among many political families in Pakistan.
The name of Junaid’s fiancé has not been shared yet, but insiders confirm she is a member of the Nawaz Sharif family.
