Justice Yahya Afridi has been nominated as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan which proves to be a significant achievement. The decision follows the final review of his candidature for his position via a parliamentary committee formed under the recently adopted 26th Amendment to the Constitution.

A system of selection mandating a parliamentary committee to choose from the three most senior judiciary justices was established by the amendment, which altered the Supreme Court’s appointment process.
The committee’s choice deviates from previous succession procedures. Before the change, it was generally expected that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah would take up the position after Justice Qazi Faez Isa retired.
The parliamentary committee announced three names of the most senior candidates eligible for this post. That includes Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Justice Muneeb Akhtar, via the new amendment.
The parliamentary assembly came to a consensus on Justice Afridi following extensive deliberations. Under the revised judicial selection process, his nomination has been regarded as a crucial choice between seniority and parliamentary supervision.
In the upcoming years, the judiciary of Pakistan will be significantly influenced by the nomination of Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice.
