K-Electric has appointed Syed Taha as its new chief executive officer, effective April 15, 2026, according to a filing with the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

He will replace interim CEO Adeeb Ahmad, marking another leadership transition at the Karachi-based power utility.

Taha is currently serving as managing director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil, a position he has held since February 2020. His appointment brings extensive experience from across Pakistan’s energy sector.

Before joining PSO, he worked as executive director at Oasis Energy, where he led the program management office for the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria. He has also previously served as chief distribution officer at K-Electric and held senior roles at Shell Pakistan and Caltex Pakistan, a subsidiary of Chevron.

Taha holds an engineering degree along with an MBA in finance from the Institute of Business Administration Karachi.

The appointment comes during a period of transition for K-Electric. Former CEO Moonis Alvi stepped down earlier this year, after which Adeeb Ahmad was appointed on an interim basis. The company also recently named Shaheryar Chishty as chairman during the absence of Mark Skelton.

The leadership change is expected to play a key role in shaping K-Electric’s operational direction as it navigates ongoing challenges in Pakistan’s power sector.
