Panic spread across parts of Karachi on Tuesday morning as the city experienced its 11th earthquake in just two days, highlighting growing concerns over sustained seismic activity in the region. According to the National Seismological Center, the latest tremor occurred at approximately 7:45 am with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was identified southwest of Korangi, an area that has witnessed repeated tremors since late Sunday night.

Residents in Korangi, Landhi, and nearby areas reported feeling the ground shake briefly, prompting many to evacuate their homes. Eyewitnesses described scenes of fear as people gathered in open spaces, with some reporting cracks appearing in the walls of residential buildings. The sudden quake caused widespread anxiety, particularly among women, children, and the elderly. Mosques in the affected areas responded with Azans, a traditional community response to natural calamities.

Karachi has now experienced multiple tremors over a short period, with four earthquakes recorded on Sunday alone. The rising frequency and intensity of seismic activity in Landhi have especially alarmed residents who are concerned about the city’s preparedness to handle a potential large-scale event.

Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Leghari confirmed that the fault line beneath the Landhi region is currently active. However, he assured that there is no indication of an impending major earthquake. He added that minor quakes may continue to affect Karachi over the next week but remain within expected geological patterns.

Despite the repeated tremors, no casualties or major structural damage have been officially reported. However, citizens continue to express concerns over the lack of emergency response plans and awareness initiatives, particularly in densely populated urban neighbourhoods.

Experts have advised the public to stay vigilant, avoid staying inside vulnerable structures during aftershocks, and follow recommended earthquake safety procedures. Although Karachi is not located on a primary fault line like northern Pakistan, it has shown increased seismic sensitivity in recent years, particularly in its eastern and southeastern regions.
