Karachi has once again been ranked as one of the least liveable cities in the world, according to the 2025 Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The city was placed 170th out of 173 cities, showing serious problems with safety, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and the environment.

The index scores cities based on over 30 factors grouped into five main areas: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Cities are then rated from “acceptable” to “intolerable.”

Top 10 Most Liveable Cities in 2025:

Mayor Murtaza Wahab Responds

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab strongly disagreed with the report. He said, “I don’t believe this survey. My city is, and will always be, a great place.”

He added that Karachi is the economic and cultural heart of Pakistan and continues to attract thousands of people from all over the country. “If another city was better, everyone would move there. People come to Karachi because it offers opportunities,” he said.

Wahab admitted the city has problems but said they should be fixed by the people of Karachi themselves. “We will solve our own issues, not outside agencies,” he stated.
