Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control observed India’s Independence Day as Black Day, holding rallies, marches, and protest gatherings to demand freedom for the region.
In Muzaffarabad, large crowds gathered at Azadi Chowk carrying black flags and banners before marching through the streets. Protesters chanted slogans against India and in support of Kashmir’s independence, including the popular call, “Hum kya chahtey — Azadi” (What do we want? Freedom).
Similar demonstrations took place in other cities across Azad Kashmir, where participants voiced their rejection of Indian rule and reaffirmed their demand for the right to self-determination.
The annual Black Day observance is meant to draw international attention to the Kashmir issue and highlight opposition to India’s control of the disputed territory. Protesters also called on the global community to support their struggle and help end human rights violations in the region.
