Karachi: On 14,000 acres of property next to the Northern Bypass (M–10) in Karachi, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is thinking about constructing a massive housing complex. This effort is meant to alleviate its financial issues. The plan was accepted by the KDA Governing Board almost two years ago, according to news reports. The plan awaited the Sindh government’s purchase of state-owned land.

The Director General of KDA, Mr. Naveed Anver, disclosed future actions. He said that a proposal to allot more than 14,000 acres of land close to the M-10 Motorway in Karachi will be submitted by the CM. Concessional rates will be applied to the land, which will be paid for in four equal payments. In addition, the Board of Revenue (BoR) will be informed in order to get ownership information concerning the possible purchase of private land in Deh Mahio and Deh Mithaghar.
The DG noted that the city’s housing demand is increasing and that an anticipated 100,000 new residential units will be needed each year. However, only 32,000 units can be produced by the official sector. People are forced to live in shanty towns or informal settlements as a result of this discrepancy, underscoring the urgent need for affordable housing solutions.
