During the next two weeks, the Khunjerab Pass border between Pakistan and China will be temporarily open, enabling traffic, passengers, and cargo to move between the two nations.
The Chinese embassy in Pakistan announced in a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan that trade through the China-Pakistan Khunjerab Pass will be temporarily opened from January 2, 2024, to January 16, 2024.

Twelve Chinese containers arrived at the Sost Dry Port after the Khunjerab Pass was temporarily opened, customs authorities reported.
A media outlet was informed by Imtiaz Shigri, Assistant Collector Customs Sost, that the pass has been temporarily allowed for the passage of products only—it is not for travel.
It is important to note that the Chinese authorities blocked the high-altitude route in November of last year, even though they had promised to keep it open all year.
To maintain the pass open, the two nations have not yet formalized their agreement. The management of China’s Xinjiang province’s Khunjerab Port had previously said that “Khunjerab Port will continue to adopt the seasonal mode of customs clearance, with normal closure from December to March” until their State Port Management Office issued an official declaration.
