As the heatwave intensifies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government has changed school timings to protect students from the scorching temperatures.

From now on, all public and private schools — including primary, middle, and high schools — will start at 7:15am. Primary schools will finish at 11:50am, while middle and high schools will end at 12:15pm. In some areas, there may be small differences in closing times based on the district and grade level.

Officials say the decision was made to keep children and school staff safe during the ongoing heatwave, which has made daytime temperatures dangerously high.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that all schools — both public and private — will begin summer vacations on May 28, lasting until August 14.

This decision came after meetings with education officials and weather experts, and a formal notice has already been issued.

Until May 28, schools in Punjab will follow revised hours, opening at 7:30am and closing at 11:30am to reduce students’ exposure to the extreme heat.

A senior education official in Punjab said the move was made in response to health warnings and weather forecasts that predict even hotter days ahead.
