KP Government Forms Special Police Unit to Combat Terrorism

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the creation of a dedicated special police unit to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts across the province.

A high-level meeting on the special branch was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, chaired by KP Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi. During the meeting, the CM approved the establishment of the special branch as a formal, specialised, and separate cadre, along with the construction of new buildings for the unit across the province.

The chief minister noted that the special branch has been allocated over Rs5.26 billion to enhance infrastructure, procure vehicles, and upgrade technical equipment and advanced technology. Additionally, 1,221 new posts for the special branch have been approved.

Officials informed the CM that in 2025, the special branch successfully defused two suicide jackets, 32 IEDs, 70 rocket shells, and 228 hand grenades.

CM Afridi stated that the branch will operate using modern counter-terrorism methods, emphasizing that the police are a key pillar in the fight against terrorism. He assured that the provincial government will continue providing all necessary resources to strengthen the special branch’s capacity.
