KP Hydel Development Organization Allowed Commercial Funding
Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a new financing model for the Pakhtunkhwa Hydel Development Organization (Pedo) that will allow the public sector institution to attract private lenders to finance future projects instead of relying on into government funding.

An official familiar with the matter told relevant officials that the Pedo Policy Council approved the new financial model on May 7 after a thorough review.
According to an official document describing the concept of the model, Pedo has already embarked on a path to leverage its “built and under construction” assets for commercial exploitation in order to generate the necessary revenue. .
The document indicates that feasible projects within the framework of the model will be converted into specialized vehicles (SPVs).

He said that importantly from the lender’s point of view, the SPV will help reduce the lender’s risk and make the transaction possible. He said a significant portion of income will also come from two major lending deals with funding agencies, including the Asian Development Bank (Balakot HPP) and the World Bank (Gabral-Kalam and Madyan HPP). ).
