In an official notice, the Office of the District Education Officer (Male), Nowshera, has directed all relevant government schools to strictly ensure that Pashto is taught as a compulsory subject, reiterating that it remains mandatory up tothe second year across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The notice, issued to principals and headmasters of government high and middle schools (GHSS, GHS, GMS) as well as Sub-Divisional Education Officers in Pabbi, Nowshera, and Jahangira, refers to earlier directives from the Elementary & Secondary Education Department regarding province-wide implementation of Pashto in government schools.
School heads have been instructed to ensure the subject is actively taught in relevant classes. The DEO’s office warned that failure to comply could result in responsibility being fixed on the head of the institution and concerned education officials, with possible adverse consequences.
The directive reflects a move toward stricter enforcement of existing regional language education policy in KP’s government schools, emphasising the compulsory status of Pashto in the curriculum.
