Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This marks the first presidential visit from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan in 20 years, the last one taking place in 2005.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and members of the federal cabinet welcomed President Zhaparov at the airport. A 21-gun salute was presented in his honour, and children in traditional dress greeted him with flowers.
The Kyrgyz president is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes cabinet ministers, senior officials, and prominent business leaders. The visit aims to strengthen ties between the two countries and open new opportunities for cooperation.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Zhaparov will hold a one-on-one meeting with President Zardari, followed by delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz. He will also address the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Business Forum, where business leaders from both sides are expected to explore investment and trade partnerships.
Talks during the visit will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding collaboration in trade, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity. Both countries are also expected to discuss ways to increase people-to-people exchanges and deepen long-term cooperation.
The visit is seen as an important step in advancing Pakistan’s engagement with Central Asia and strengthening its regional ties.
