The plan involves using AI through Safe City cameras at five key traffic congestion points. Commissioner Maqsood highlighted that continuous AI monitoring would identify and address all causes of traffic flow obstruction. The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has been instructed to remove waste containers from main roads to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additionally, the Traffic Engineering and Town Planning Agency (TEPA) and the district administration have been directed to eliminate illegal and unnecessary signboards from roads and footpaths.

Safe City cameras will also help identify illegal parking and traffic jams across the city. The briefing pointed out that clearing illegal structures and parking and setting up traffic awareness camps in different towns are already underway in the first phase.

Commissioner Maqsood also tasked TEPA with checking and painting lane markings at traffic signals and removing excess poles and boards from all roads. He stressed the importance of a practical traffic engineering plan to maintain traffic flow in the city. Practical steps are being taken following clear instructions from the chief minister regarding comprehensive traffic interventions in Lahore. The commissioner further noted that along with road and signal design changes, a comprehensive plan for traffic education and awareness is essential. He emphasized that parking should only be allowed in approved areas of commercial buildings, and enforcing this rule is crucial. Improvements in traffic flow will be achieved through various measures, including road design changes, patchwork, new signs, boards, and spike barrier installations.

Key officials such as Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar, LWMC CEO Babar Sahibdin, WASA Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed, and officers from the Punjab Safe City Authority participated in the meeting, signaling a coordinated effort to tackle the city’s traffic problems.
