Apple may soon introduce a major upgrade with the iPhone 18 Pro — 5G internet through satellites, without needing mobile towers.
A new report says Apple is exploring a partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink to allow iPhones to connect directly to satellites for internet. This means users could stay online even in remote areas with no mobile network.
The iPhone 18 Pro, expected in September 2026, may be the first to support this feature. Apple also plans to bring this technology to regular iPhone models by 2027.
Possible Apple–Starlink Partnership
According to the report, Starlink’s latest satellites use frequencies that match Apple’s current emergency satellite technology, making collaboration easier.
If this partnership happens, iPhones could use direct 5G satellite internet, unlike Starlink’s home internet system which needs special equipment.
Concerns
Some experts say this could raise privacy and control questions, since users’ internet data may go through a network owned by Elon Musk.
What About Apple’s Current Satellite Partner?
Right now, Apple works with Globalstar for Emergency SOS via satellite. But the new report suggests Apple may shift away from Globalstar if it moves towards Starlink’s more advanced system.
Why It Matters
Satellite 5G would:
- Work in remote or rural areas
- Reduce reliance on cell towers
- Offer stronger global communication coverage
However, this idea is not officially confirmed yet, so it remains in development.
