LG Minister Seeks Increase in Sindh’s Forest Cover
According to news sources, Sindh Local Government Minister for Forest Syed Nasir Hussain Shah issued directions on Monday to prioritise the urban forest programme, amenity plants, and the Bahman Biodiversity Park Larkana in the country’s fight against the negative effects of climate change.

He presided over a meeting with Secretary Forests & Wildlife Department Dr. Badar Jameel Mendhro, Chief Conservator Javed Mehar, and other officials to discuss the Forest Department Annual Development Programme project (ADP).
For the next ADP, he suggested, a PKR 500 million tree-planting project on the 200,000-acre forest tract reclaimed from encroachments in the Indus riverine region should be developed. Additionally, he noted that a request for resources must be sent well in advance of the deadline to ensure timely completion.
Mr. Shah also commanded the installation of a surveillance system to prevent the reoccupation of forest department territory in Pucca and riverine regions.

In addition, the minister of the province indicated that the existing urban forest in Lyari River and nearby areas must be expanded. Additionally, he suggested that frequent urban forest initiatives must be included in the annual development plan.
