Residents of Lahore are once again facing hours of unannounced power outages as load shedding intensifies across the city, disrupting daily life during peak winter conditions.

According to power officials, dense fog and extremely cold weather have caused repeated system tripping at both national and local grid stations, leading to frequent electricity breakdowns in many areas. The situation has worsened due to a sharp decline in hydropower generation, mainly because of annual canal cleaning and temporary water closures.

Officials confirmed that the nationwide electricity shortfall has crossed 5,500 to 6,000 megawatts, leaving Lahore Electric Supply Company with limited options except to implement strict load management across the city.

Several localities are also experiencing outages due to ongoing technical maintenance and transformer upgrades. In many cases, residents complained that power cuts were carried out without prior notice, adding to public frustration. Traders, students, and households say the outages have made routine activities difficult, especially during cold nights.

With low temperatures and limited alternatives for heating, citizens have demanded urgent action and better communication from power authorities. Many have also called for transparency regarding load shedding schedules and restoration timelines.

Weather officials have forecast cold and dry conditions across most districts of Punjab, including Lahore. Dense fog is expected to persist in several areas, which may continue to affect power infrastructure and visibility on roads.

Until weather conditions improve and supply shortages ease, Lahore residents remain braced for continued power disruptions, hoping for swift relief from the authorities.
