While cleaning his car, a man from Philadelphia found a lost Powerball ticket, which led to an unexpected $50,000 win, according to Maryland Lottery officials.
While traveling, the man, whose name has not been disclosed, bought the winning ticket on June 4 at a Baltimore County store. He discovered the ticket hidden away more than a week later when he was cleaning his car and made the decision to look up its numbers.
He was shocked to learn that the ticket had matched enough numbers to earn a $50,000 award, which is one of the highest secondary prizes in the game.

The winner, who works as an engineer and is described as a frequent traveler, informed lottery authorities that he was “overjoyed” by the discovery.
He attributed the discovery to “a stroke of luck during routine cleaning” and said it was totally unexpected.
He said that he hoped the victory would be the first of many more to come.
Although there are many reports of misplaced or forgotten lottery tickets in the US, this instance has reminded players to check their slips again before throwing them away. Officials from the Maryland lottery acknowledged the prize and pointed out that the ticket was claimed prior to its expiration.
With prizes that frequently reach the hundreds of millions, the Powerball is one of the most played lottery games in the United States. Matching some, but not all, of the chosen numbers will earn you smaller rewards like the $50,000 windfall.
