Mari Energies Limited has announced a new gas discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well in the Kalchas South Block, located in Dera Bugti district, according to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The Kalchas South joint venture is operated by United Energy Pakistan Limited, which holds a 46 per cent working interest. Mari Energies Limited holds 44 per cent, while Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Limited owns the remaining 10 per cent stake.
Tibri-1 is the first exploratory well drilled in the Kalchas South Block. The well was spudded on November 11, 2025, and drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet. Initial testing of the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone formation delivered encouraging results: gas flowed at 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) at a 64/64-inch choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 561 psig, and 6.5 MMSCFD at a 32/64-inch choke, with a pressure of 1,161 psig. Further testing is currently underway to fully assess the well’s production potential.
Mari Energies said the area had remained largely dormant for an extended period due to security challenges. Exploration activities resumed after the joint venture acquired Dewan Petroleum’s working interest in July 2023, eventually leading to the Tibri-1 discovery.
The company added that the discovery underscores the joint venture’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources and strengthening the country’s energy supply base.
