Monthly Tax for Small Shopkeepers and Retailers in 42 Cities

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has implemented fixed monthly tax payments for small shopkeepers and retailers in 42 cities, with amounts ranging from Rs. 100 to over Rs. 20,000. The FBR has categorized shops based on their locations and issued market/area-wise Indicative Income, Indicative Income Tax, and Monthly Advance Tax requirements for small traders.

An S.R.O. 1064 (I)/2024 has been issued to amend the Tajir Dost Special Procedure, 2024. This scheme applies to cities including Abbottabad, Attock, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, Dera Ismail Khan, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Ghotki, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Gwadar, Hafizabad, Haripur, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Karachi, Kasur, Khushab, Lahore, Larkana, Lasbela, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Mansehra, Mardan, Mirpurkhas, Multan, Nankana, Narowal, Peshawar, Quetta, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Sukkur, and Toba Tek Singh.

According to the revised scheme, any individual owning a shop of 50 square feet or less in a commercial area, a makeshift shop, a ‘khoka,’ a kiosk, or a small shop measuring no more than 5×3 square feet, will be subject to a fixed advance tax of Rs. 1,200 per annum. 

Shopkeepers, which include wholesalers, dealers, distributors, retailer-manufacturers, importer-retailers, and those combining retail and wholesale activities with other business operations or individuals involved in the supply chain of goods, must pay the monthly tax installments.
