Motorway Police’s Latest Announcement on New Fine Sparks Confusion
The most recent notification from the National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has left many perplexed.
The NHMP claims that drivers of motor vehicles who do not have a certificate of No-Fault Insurance coverage would be subject to an Rs. 1,000 punishment. The increased penalty will take effect on January 1, 2024.
Nevertheless, the NHMP failed to educate drivers on the process for obtaining a No-Fault Insurance certificate or to define what one is.

In response to the announcement, online users encouraged the highway police to provide information on the aforementioned certificate to the public before enforcing penalties.

The NHMP said earlier this month that many infractions, such as speeding, driving without a helmet, and utilizing HID lights, will result in higher fines.
The Rs. 300 fine for utilizing HID lights has been increased to Rs. 2,000. In addition, motorcycle riders who are caught pulling stunts will henceforth be fined Rs. 5,000 instead of the prior Rs. 300.
Furthermore, the penalty for driving without a helmet has increased from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1,000, an increase of Rs. 800. Additionally, as of January 1, 2024, cars that exceed the speed limit will be subject to an increased fine.
