The National Accountability Bureau recovered a record Rs 6.213 trillion during 2025, the highest annual recovery in the institution’s history, NAB Chairman Nazir Ahmed informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.
The NAB chairman called on the prime minister at the Prime Minister’s House and presented the bureau’s annual performance report for 2025. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present during the meeting.
While reviewing NAB’s performance, the prime minister praised the use of modern tools, including AI-assisted investigations and the e-office system, saying these measures support the government’s goals of austerity, efficiency, and transparency. He reaffirmed full government support for NAB’s professional independence and its role in protecting national resources.
During the briefing, the NAB chairman said the recoveries included 2.98 million acres of state and forest land valued at around Rs 5.99 trillion. He added that Rs 180 billion was recovered and returned to 115,587 victims of fake housing and fraudulent investment schemes, calling it a major relief effort that helped rebuild public trust in state institutions.
He further said initiatives such as the NAB Open Court and the Central Complaint Cell have improved public engagement, reducing the gap between citizens and the state and strengthening NAB’s role as a grievance redressal forum rather than a source of fear.
