The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an important advisory for Pakistani citizens, warning them against the unnecessary photocopying of their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). According to NADRA, there is no legal requirement for individuals to provide CNIC photocopies when submitting forms or registering for services, and doing so could increase the risk of identity theft.
In its official statement, NADRA clarified that citizens should carry their original CNICs along with any other necessary documents for identification purposes. The advisory comes amid growing concerns about fraudulent schemes where criminals pose as officials to gain access to sensitive personal information. These scammers often lure people with promises of financial rewards or prizes, only to misuse their data, including fingerprints, for illegal activities.

NADRA has highlighted that such incidents have occurred even at its own centers, and it urges the public to remain vigilant. Citizens are specifically warned not to hand over their CNICs as collateral for any services or benefits. The move to discourage CNIC photocopying is part of a broader strategy by NADRA to enhance personal data security and prevent identity-related crimes.
The advisory serves as a critical reminder for individuals to protect their personal information and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By avoiding unnecessary CNIC photocopying, citizens can contribute to safeguarding their identity and reducing the risk of falling victim to fraud.
