Two people, including a representative of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), have been taken into custody by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in relation to the sale and leak of private information.
NCCIA Hyderabad claims that Abdul Hakeem, a junior executive at Nadra, has been supplying classified data from Nadra’s database. Mohsin Iqbal, his accomplice, is accused of providing the national identity card numbers of those whose information was subsequently obtained.
Through their mobile devices, investigators have also located dubious WhatsApp accounts connected to Mohsin Iqbal and Abdul Hakeem.
According to reports, the suspects have been engaged in the illicit exchange of private information for a long time. Online, the data was exchanged for cash.
Authorities said that sensitive data belonging to residents of other cities was being illegally shared.
Following the arrest, a legal case has been filed against both people, and more investigation is currently proceeding.
