Nationwide Monsoon Rains Predicted This Week

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued a Monsoon Rains forecast for Sindh, Balochistan, and upper and central Pakistan, affecting areas from July 8 to July 15.

Here’s a breakdown of the expected weather:

  • Sindh & Balochistan (July 8-9): Hot and humid with rain, wind, and thundershowers in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Dadu, Padidan, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Sajawal, Thatta, and Karachi. Eastern Balochistan will also see rain, wind, and thundershowers in Khuzdar, Kalat, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, and Shirani.
  • Nationwide Rain (July 10-15): A weather forecast system is expected to bring general rain across upper and central Pakistan, including Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Let’s look at the specific regions:

  • Kashmir: From July 10 to 16, rain, wind, and thundershowers (with chances of heavy rain) are likely in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur
  • Punjab & Islamabad: Expect rain, wind, and thundershowers (with chances of heavy rain) in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali from July 10th evening/night to July 15. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah can expect rain and thundershowers from July 12 to 14.
  • Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain, wind, and thundershowers (with chances of heavy rain) are forecast in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 11 to 15.
  • Balochistan (in addition to the July 8-9 forecast): Rain, wind, and thundershowers are expected in Khuzdar, Kalat, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, and Shirani from July 12 to 14.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: From July 11 to 15, it will be mostly partly cloudy to cloudy, with chances of rain in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar.

The Met Office reports that residents in these areas should stay alert for potential flooding and disruptions caused by heavy rainfall. Authorities are urged to take necessary precautions to manage the impact of the monsoon season.
