As officials emphasized the increased concern of hacking in Pakistan, NCERT issued a warning to WhatsApp users about phishing and fake links.

A severe warning regarding the dramatic rise in phishing and hacking assaults directed at WhatsApp users has been issued by the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT). More and more advanced techniques are being used by cybercriminals to fool consumers into disclosing private information.

Hackers are using phony verification codes and links to enter WhatsApp accounts without authorization. Once compromised, these accounts could be exploited for fraud, disseminating false information, or gaining access to contact lists and private images.

Fake bank loyalty programs and prize promises are being utilized as bait to trick consumers into falling for these scams, the advice further noted.

NCERT advised WhatsApp users to add an additional layer of security by turning on two-step verification in their app settings in order to counter these threats.

It is strongly recommended that users only confirm any questionable messages through official and verified sources and refrain from clicking on links pertaining to address verification, prizes, or surveys. When receiving texts from unknown numbers, more care should be used.
