The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert warning of worsening smog and dense fog conditions across several parts of the country, urging citizens to remain cautious.
According to the advisory released on Wednesday, rising smog levels are likely to disrupt traffic flow in multiple cities. A significant increase in smog is expected in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura, which could reduce visibility and impact daily movement.
Meanwhile, fog conditions are forecast to intensify in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as well as in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Upper regions of Sindh are also expected to experience a sharp rise in fog. The NDMA warned that until December 20, visibility will remain particularly low during nighttime and early morning hours.
The authority cautioned that reduced visibility significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents. Citizens, especially drivers, have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of dense fog and smog and to strictly follow safety measures while on the road.
The NDMA has also directed relevant departments and local administrations to take special precautionary steps to manage traffic, ensure public safety, and minimize the potential impact of smog and fog in affected areas.
