The death toll from floods and heavy rains this year has climbed to 910 across Pakistan, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The report said three more lives were lost in the past 24 hours, with two deaths reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand and Buner districts, and one in Punjab’s Mandi Bahauddin.
Since June 26, a total of 910 people have died and 1,044 others have been injured in rain and flood-related incidents. Of the deaths, 442 were caused by flooding, 252 by collapsed structures, and 65 by drowning. The NDMA further reported that 25 people died in landslides, 23 from electric shocks, and 26 from lightning strikes.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the worst-hit province, recording 504 deaths, followed by Punjab with 234. Sindh has reported 58 fatalities, Balochistan 26, Gilgit-Baltistan 41, Azad Kashmir 38, and Islamabad 9. Injuries include 654 in Punjab, 218 in KP, and 78 in Sindh. Smaller figures were reported in other regions, with Balochistan registering 5, Gilgit-Baltistan 52, Azad Kashmir 34, and Islamabad 3.
The NDMA added that 7,850 houses have been damaged so far, including 1,945 completely destroyed and 5,905 partially damaged. The monsoon has also claimed the lives of 6,180 livestock, dealing a severe blow to rural households.
Separately, the NDMA has warned that a fresh rain-bearing system over India’s Gujarat and Rajasthan may affect Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab. The spokesperson said intermittent rains are expected until September 10, with heavy to very heavy downpours likely in the Koh-e-Suleiman region and southern Punjab. Urban flooding risks remain high in low-lying areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
